Local Artist Gallery: Michael Ian Larsen. “All artwork is about beauty; all positive work represents it and celebrates it. All negative art protests the lack of beauty in our lives.” Agnes Martin, 1989. In a contemporary art world increasingly focused on societal concerns and global issues, artists and critics alike have questioned beauty’s efficacy and relevance for contemporary culture. However, all three of these artists buck the current trend and
draw on the transformative potential of beauty to create work that has a sophisticatedly elaborate aesthetic.
