Downtown Matchup: Downtown Fresno vs. Downtown Lincoln
Posted on September 9, 2011 in Informative 1 Comment
This weekend, hundreds of fans from Fresno, California will make the 1,600 mile trek to downtown Lincoln to watch their beloved Fresno State Bulldogs square off for the first time against the 10th-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers. Bulldog fans will have the opportunity to explore some of downtown’s most venerated restaurants and shops, intermingle with Husker fans and get a taste of what downtown Lincoln is like on gameday Saturday.
As Fresnans get acquainted to the sights and sounds of downtown Lincoln this weekend, we thought it would be only appropriate for Lincolnites to get acquainted to the city of Fresno and its downtown. Below is the (probably) first-ever comparison chart of the two cities and their downtowns. It will be the most interesting Fresno-Lincoln comparison chart you will look at today, guaranteed.
We spoke with Elliott Balch, Interim President of PBID Partners of Downtown Fresno, who gave some insight into what it’s like to visit downtown Fresno.
“The San Joaquin Valley is California’s year-round playground, and Downtown Fresno is the Valley’s next frontier. Hundreds of new apartments are under construction or in the planning stages, and half a dozen new restaurants, nightclubs, and breweries have opened just this year. Over 31,000 more people came to Fresno Grizzlies baseball games this season than last. If you’re not downtown, are you missing out?”
As for whether or not Balch was nervous about his Bulldogs playing the Huskers on Saturday?
“Fresno loves to compete with the best, on and off the field, because we can. So look out, Lincoln—here come those ‘Dogs!”
Game on.

Lincoln is the best “small town” in America. Love the comparison of the two “towns”! Maybe this type of article should be a mainstay of the newsletter during football season!
