Downtown Matchup: Downtown Evanston vs. Downtown Lincoln

Learn More About Downtown Evanston

It’s Nebraska’s last Saturday home game and the tenth-ranked Cornhuskers are taking on the Northwestern Wildcats on what looks to be a relatively warm November day. The Wildcats reign from Evanston, Illinois, a town right outside Chicago that’s roughly the size of Sioux City. The Huskers come into the bout at 7-1 (3-1) after perhaps their most promising game of the season last week against #11 Michigan State. The Wildcats come to Lincoln at 3-5 (1-4) fresh off a win against the Indiana Hoosiers, and their highest scoring game of the season.

Pressed up against Lake Michigan, Evanston is a North Shore suburb located just 12 miles north of downtown Chicago. Downtown Evanston is home to Northwestern University’s undergrad school, graduate school and the Kellogg School of Management, while Chicago is home to the university’s med school, law school and MBA program. The city has just one high school, Evanston Township High School, whose mascot is Willie the Wildkit, in congruence with Northwestern’s Willie the Wildcat.

As we did the past few weeks with Fresno, Seattle, Laramie, Madison, Columbus, Minneapolis and East Lansing, we continue to look at the cities of our Husker competitors to see how Lincoln sizes up. Below is a comparison of the city of Lincoln and the city of Evanston and their respective downtowns.
