Fat Toad Opens Downtown

The Fat Toad

Earlier this month the Fat Toad opened in downtown Lincoln on 1409 O Street.  The space which use to house Dillinger’s and The Loft has been taken over by former Dillinger’s employee, Josh Root.  Root started his work in this location as a door man in 2000 when the bar was called Mickey’s.  Since then, Root has developed a passion for entertainment, which eventually led to his purchase of the bar and the creation of Fat Toad.  The new and unique name for the bar derived from the spotting of another bar called Fat Turtle, which Root visited on a vacation.

Much of the former Dillinger’s atmosphere will remain the same; however there have been a few changes made to the bar.  Root has torn down the bar in the middle of the location and opened it up with more tables.  A new smaller bar has been built towards the front windows, to better display the atmosphere.  Fat Toad is also equip with new booths and a bigger dance floor as well.

Another large change to the location is the connection between the main bar area and The Loft.  In the past, the Loft was utilized as a separate bar with separate stairs.  That concept has changed, where both the main bar and the loft have one entrance and all a part of the Fat Toad.  The loft area of the Fat Toad now offers a more relaxed area with pool tables and a less crowded bar.

Overall Root is excited about Fat Toad’s new role in the downtown community and wants “to establish a pub feel, while still keeping the dance floor atmosphere”. Root also encourages patrons to check out the Fat Toad for the UFC fights, as they have many flat screen TV’s.  Why the special interest in UFC fights?  This location used to be partly owned by famous UFC Fighter, Chuck Liddell
