Sheldon Family Fun Event

Friday, July 10, 5-7 p.m.: Free and Open to the Public

Families are invited to enjoy making art together during Sheldon’s Family Fun Event on Saturday, July 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. There will be three art-making activity areas inside Sheldon. Local artists will assist children in creating drawings, sculptures and Styrofoam prints.

When children have completed their art, families can explore Sheldon’s galleries and select favorite paintings and sculptures. The homemade art can then be taken home and be shared with family and friends.

All materials will be provided, but visitors should come in appropriate art-making clothes (feel free to bring a smock if you have one). Refreshments, including UNL Dairy Store ice cream, will be available.

Local Artists include:

• Resa Ortiz, art specialist at Fredstrom Elementary, who will be helping children create three-dimensional drawings.
• Susan Otte, art specialist at Zeman Elementary, who will assist with making and coloring clay sculptures.
• Nancy Childs, a local artist and curriculum specialist in visual art for Lincoln Public Schools, who will help children make Styrofoam prints.

Family Fun Event Relates to Current Exhibitions

The art techniques will reflect those used by the artists featured in Sheldon’s current exhibitions, Play’s the Thing: The Painting and Objects of Jun Kaneko and James McNeill Whistler: 40 Years of Printmaking.
