COMMUNITY ALTERNATIVES OF NEBRASKA

In addition to the DLA Maintenance Crew, Downtown Lincoln would not be the way it is today without the help of the Community Alternatives of Nebraska Crew.  This crew assists the DLA crew with many day-to-day tasks and help the area stay clean, green and attractive.

CLEAN, GREEN, ATTRACTIVE

The maintenance crew pick up litter and empty garbage containers 7 days a week, with the help of a 7 person Community Alternatives crew. They service 60 recycling containers on a daily basis. There are over 160 pole baskets and 90 (55 gal.) garbage containers.  Collecting leaves, cigarette butts and cleaning street spills are also part of the daily routine. (Total annual garbage collection is approximately. 2450 cu. yards.)

The crew manages a 66 square block area in the central part of downtown Lincoln. They also maintain 789 trees, numerous shrubs, bulbs and perennials in over 1000 planting beds. The crew is in the process of planting 140 large shade and ornamental trees by the end of this summer.
