Downtown Lincoln is Growing!

BY TESSA WISER

On August 14, the City Council voted 7-0 to expand Downtown Lincoln to include the Telegraph District, starting September 1, 2023.

The current Business Improvement District (BID) includes over 500 property owners and over 900 businesses. This expansion will add 80 businesses and 156 properties.

The boundaries of Downtown Lincoln will grow east of 17th Street to approximately 21st Street (Antelope Creek). The boundaries also include Q and P Streets to the north and K Street to the south. This includes the up-and-coming Telegraph District.

Businesses that will be added to Downtown Lincoln in this expansion include Open Harvest, Hub Cafe, Journal Star, and many others.

Downtown Lincoln Association (DLA) will provide maintenance, including landscaping, trash receptacles, bike racks, and planters. Management services include event coordination, economic development, and marketing.

Downtown Lincoln Association is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 1967. In the 80s, DLA created the BID. The last expansion, integrating the West Haymarket, happened in 2014.

DLA has been working on this project since 2019 after several businesses reached out about becoming a part of the BID. The project was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic but was resumed in 2022.
