Downtown YMCA to Offer Marathon Training Course

Ever wanted to run a marathon but didn’t know where to start?

Good news—the downtown YMCA of Lincoln is looking for participants for its annual Marathon Training Course to get you all the way to the finish line.

The course spans Jan. 3 to May 2, 2019 and is designed to teach participants how to run a marathon or to run at a faster pace by training with others at their same fitness level, along with offering individual help along the way.

“This course is ideal for anyone interested in running the Lincoln Marathon in May,” downtown YMCA Associate Executive Director Karla Hudson said. “While the program is for all runners, we encourage participants to have a running base of 10-15 miles per week in the two months prior to January in order to safely participate in the scheduled runs each week.”

Participants will dive into ways to ready their mind, body and soul. Along with multiple runs and strength and speed training each week, future marathoners can enjoy the benefit of regular yoga sessions and professional speakers.

“This is a really encouraging group to train with,” long-time class instructor and manager of the Lincoln Running Company Ann Ringlein said. “Our participants really get to know one another and many end up being training partners for race events beyond the Lincoln Marathon.”

First-time participants are welcome to learn about the program before registering by attending an orientation at the Downtown YMCA, located at 1039 P St., on Thursday, Dec. 13 at 6 p.m.

Registration begins Nov. 1 in person or online. To learn more, visit ymcalincoln.org/marathontraining.
