Downtown Hidden Gems: Saro Cider
What began as an idea during a trip to Scotland became a cornerstone of Lincoln’s food and drink scene.

With seasonal ciders that fly off the shelves across the country and creative local collaborations, Saro Cider has become a source of inspiration for small business owners and a beloved part of Downtown Lincoln's spirit.
Saro Cider’s mission goes far beyond crafting award-winning beverages. It is about creating an inclusive space where everyone can enjoy food and drinks. As an entirely gluten-free facility, Saro Cider is a safe haven for those with gluten intolerances.
This commitment is personal for co-owner Matt Wood, who was diagnosed with celiac disease and knows the difficulty of finding safe and enjoyable dining options. He and his wife, Tracy Sanford, created a safe experience for those facing similar struggles, turning a challenge into inspiration.
Seasonal ciders play a significant role in Saro Cider’s identity, offering a rotating selection that brings excitement year-round. In the summer, their Sangria cider is the most popular. As the weather gets colder, the Spiced Cider reigns supreme. Their current lineup includes creative flavors such as Orange Mint Shandy, Grapefruit, Jalapeno, and more.
Saro has earned accolades from Cider Craft magazine and the U.S. Open Cider Championship. However, for Wood and Tracy, the valid reward isn’t impressing judges; it’s creating a cider that their customers love.
Their inclusive personality also shines through their selection of non-alcoholic beverages. Wood, Sanford, and the Saro Cider team place just as much emphasis on their non-alcoholic selection, ensuring that everyone can enjoy their creations, alcohol or not.
A vital part of Saro Cider's success is its creative collaborations with other local businesses. One of their most recent partnerships was with the local ice cream company, 402 Creamery, for an event called “Scoops & Floats.” Attendees enjoyed 402’s ice cream topped with their signature spiced apple cider.
Inside their Lincoln location, Saro Cider features art by local artists that is available for purchase. These collaborations continue to strengthen Saro Cider's roots in the Lincoln community.
Another highlight of Saro Cider is its gluten-free brunch, a monthly event that has become a favorite among locals and visitors. This brunch features an entirely gluten-free menu that changes every time; this month, it includes hashbrown-crusted quiche, breakfast flatbreads, and oat waffles.
Saro Cider is a shining example of what passion and purpose can achieve. Matt Wood and Tracy Sanford have built a business that offers something for everyone, making Saro a must-visit destination in the heart of downtown Lincoln.
