Four Black-Owned Businesses You Need to Visit


February is Black History Month and to celebrate, we wanted to show some love for the black-owned businesses in Downtown Lincoln. 

1. Roots Collective 

Roots Collective is a salon located on 11th and M. Roots Collective is owned by Addis Browne and will celebrate five years in Downtown Lincoln in a couple of months. 

Browne wanted a salon that feels like a home away from home. The goal of Roots Collective is to provide a safe space and strive for inclusiveness for hair of all curl patterns.

2. Gravity Lincoln 

Lincoln’s hottest club is Gravity Lincoln. Bottle service, VIP, and live music? What’s not to love in a nightclub? Gravity Lincoln is the elevated nightlife of Downtown Lincoln. 

Owner Derek Jones is familiar with Lincoln’s DJ scene and helps feature local performers and DJs for Gravity’s events. Each first Saturday of the month is Superbia, an inclusive party for our LGBTQ+ community.

3. Stur 22

Stur 22, formerly Sturfast, is a Caribbean and African restaurant and cocktail lounge. This chic and welcoming restaurant serves up the heat with its Caribbean and west African flavors. 

Head into Stur 22 between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. for their fast and affordable lunch options. Whether you decide on a protein bowl or some jerk chicken wings, you’ll choose a winning meal either way.

4. Screamers 

It’s no shock that Screamers made it on this list. The intimate cabaret stage is fun for the whole family (on Tuesdays, kids eat for free!) Owner Kevin Witcher gives a dining experience that you will remember. It's not unusual for your server to break into songs. Going here transports your life into a musical with your favorite American classics.

Customers can come in every day of the week for a different decade during the lunch hour. Every day of the week will be a different decade, ranging from the 50s to the 80s, with staff performing hits from the respected eras.
