Powder Room Parlor Opens
A modern, comfortable parlor with the style of a coastal salon but the charm of a Midwestern one.
That's the goal of Powder Room Parlor, a new boutique hair and nail salon, now open next door to Iron Brush Tattoo. The space is simultaneously stylish and rustic, with exposed white brick, caramel-colored chairs and a plethora of greenery.
Beyond looks, the comfortable atmosphere is meant to inspire friendships and bonds between stylists and clients.
Liz Peck, a barber and stylist for the salon, said owner Melissa Stone wanted to open a salon for years and began renovating the Powder Room space in November.
Currently three stylists and a nail technician are employed at Powder Room: Peck, Stone, Megan Cockrill and Holly Krause.
Though they all work for Powder Room, each stylist is independent, meaning they decide their own hours and how many clients they want to take on.
Prior to working at Powder Room, the four women worked with Stone and one another both in school and in various salons. Peck said Stone has always been the type of person you want to worth with forever.
Cockrill said it's the relationship with their clients, their community and one other that sets them apart from other salons in the Lincoln.
"It's the dream team," Cockrill said.
Supporting local is a major part of Powder Room. The parlor's plants, water bottles, coffee and decor come from various Nebraskan businesses, both from Lincoln and elsewhere.
"We all love Nebraska," Peck said. "We love every bit of Nebraska and cherish it and love it. We're big fans of it, we like to support a lot of local businesses."
Working next to the tattoo parlor is also a huge bonus for the women and contributes to a neighborhood-type feel on their block, they said.
"We're kind of the misfits of downtown because we're off to the side of the main downtown area," Peck said. "It's cool to be a part of this area and when the Telegraph district happens, we'll be sandwiched between that [and downtown] which is really cool. This space was perfect."
The salon is now accepting appointments and will celebrate their grand opening on May 13 with an open house.
"It'll be a big party and we want everyone to come and just enjoy downtown," Peck said.
