On the fourth day of Christmas, Downtown Lincoln gave to me:

Four new favorite beers...

Monday, December 23 (and almost everyday in December)
1 PM
The Happy Raven, 122 N 11th Street

All December, we're bringing you amazing beers. Your task? Try 'em all.

Every day in December, we'll tap a new beer and post about it here. You'll have until that keg runs out (maybe a day or two? maybe a few days?) to try a full pour.

We're closed on Dec 8th, 24th, and 25th, and we know the last week of the year is a little hectic. So we'll put the final 3 beers on tap on Dec 31st, and you'll have until 9pm to stop in and try them.

With these amazing raffle prizes:
You've tried 1-5 beers: entered for a $10 gift card
You've tried 6-10 beers: entered for a $20 gift card
You've tried 11-15 beers: entered for a $30 gift card
You've tried 16-20 beers: entered for a $40 gift card
You've tried 21-25 beers: entered to win Beer for a Year!
Plus, if you try all 25, you'll get a second entry in the Beer for a Year raffle.

Beer for a Year: One free growler fill every single week for an entire year, and one free glass growler to put it in! (growler fills valued at a max of $10 each)

Every participant gets ONE entry in the raffle, at the prize level they've earned, unless you have all 25 beers, in which case you get a second entry in the Beer for a Year raffle. You do NOT have to be present at the time of the drawing to win.

Six bluesy tunes...

Wednesday, December 25
9 PM - 12 AM
The Zoo Bar, 136 N 14th Street

Christmas with Shawn "Lil' Slim" Holt

Shawn "Lil' Slim" Holt is the son of legendary blues master, Magic Slim, AKA Morris Holt. Shawn started playing the blues at the age of 17, when he went on the road with his father and his Teardrops, where he aquired the name from his late Uncle Nick Holt, "Lil' Slim".

Shortly after that tour with his father Shawn formed his band, "Lil' Slim and The Back Alley Blues Band", with his god-brother, Jeff Boehmer, Joey Manthy & JJ King. Since then, Shawn played with the current band, The Blues Messengers and took a break after that. Shawn picked the guitar back up in 2009, while living in Minnesota and started the group, "True Sons of the Blues", with Jimi "Primetime" Smith, Tyson Bell and Allen Kirk, then later with John Lindberg.

Moving back to Nebraska, he hooked up with some of his old band mates and new ones too and created "The Lil' Slim Blues Band", with the current list of band members. This is their time!!!

Nebraska natives, The Wildwoods Duo are the two lead singers from The Wildwoods Band from Lincoln, NE, the duo, Noah and Chloe Gose, released an EP titled “Birdie and Goose” in late 2017. The duo group follows the same ideals as the full band The Wildwoods by bringing a pioneering sound to Americana Roots Music. Their full band was formed in 2012, and the band released their first album, “A Little Sweeter”, in 2014 and have since released three more albums independently: “Take A Chance” (2016) “Sweet Nostalgia” (2017) and their newest "Across A Midwest Sky" (2019)

The Wildwoods Duo has performed on the Pantorium Sessions for KHOI Radio and The Midwest Review Live. There music has also graced such places as Sofar Concerts in St. Louis Mo & New York City, Rockwood Music Hall in New York City, and the Nebraska State Fair. They continue to tour regionally throughout the Midwest and Mountain States. The Duo has won second place in the Uncommon Ground Open Mic Competition in Chicago Illinois, and their whole band was nominated in 2016, 2017 & 2018 by the Omaha Arts and Entertainment Awards as one of the top Americana Folk Bands in the area, and in 2017 as Local Album of the year for their album “Sweet Nostalgia”. In December 2017, they performed live as part of the Paste Music & Daytrotter Sessions. The Wildwoods also prove to be talented songwriters in 2019 their song "Untitled" made the semi-finals for the Unsigned Only Music Competition. 2017, The Wildwood’s song “Way of Train”, made the semi-finals in the International Songwriting competition along with “Dance with Me” in 2016. Two of their songs also placed in the top 10 of the 2015 Omaha Performing Arts Songwriting Competition.

The following is what media had to say about The Wildwoods:

“The Wildwoods know exactly what kind of music they want to make. It's not often we hear a sound this focused...The voices are very different in timbre and delivery, yet mix with each other perfectly...Bring a friend or go alone; either way you'll find yourself reminiscing on the good times and finding peace with the bad ones.” Words by Landon Kuhlmann, Paste Magazine & Daytrotter

“The young songwriting tandem of Chloe Pinkman and Noah Gose harmonize like something out of the Depression Era, fitted with a certain weight yet warmly and triumphantly capable of lifting hearts regardless.” Andrew Stellman editor from Hear Nebraska

The Wildwoods strive to make music that touches the soul & speaks of truth, that will be sure to melt your heart after every performance.
