Vinyl Brings 70s Inspired Bar to the Haymarket

Vinyl offers an inviting spot for craft cocktails and a unique vibe in the heart of the Haymarket.

Soon to become a Downtown Lincoln favorite, Vinyl combines a retro, 70s-inspired aesthetic with a laid-back atmosphere. This vibrant bar has been making significant waves in the Haymarket District; attached to Fleetwood and brought to life by Red Herring Concepts, Vinyl represents their newest and most exciting concept.

Jessica Powell, the Director of Operations, shared insights into the naming process behind "Vinyl." “We initially brainstormed a variety of names, including 'Cake,' inspired by the band, and 'Root Down,' reflecting a musical theme,” Powell explained. “However, during one brainstorming session, Mike [Barton, the owner of Vinyl] came up with the idea of simply calling it 'Vinyl.' It truly captures the essence of what we wanted!”

Vinyl is dedicated not only to a nostalgic atmosphere but also to fostering a calm and intimate environment. It’s the perfect setting for those seeking a cozy corner to engage in meaningful conversations or just unwind. Adding to the theme, the drink menus are cleverly designed to resemble vinyl record-shaped coasters.

“Our vision was to create a speakeasy feel,” Powell elaborated. “While Lincoln lacks the speakeasy culture found in places like Omaha, where some bars require a password or specific attire, we aimed for a different approach. We envisioned it as a space akin to a cool aunt's basement—inviting, relaxed, and somewhere you’d love to hang out.”

Vinyl prides itself on delivering not just a good time but also expertly crafted cocktails. Among their unique offerings is the “Alabama Slammer,” a popular drink from the 70s that combines amaretto, Southern Comfort, sloe gin, and orange juice.

For espresso martini aficionados, Vinyl offers three different takes. They incorporate cold brew coffee sourced from Mill Coffee and Tea and add a hint of chili pepper to the traditional recipe, creating an exciting, flavorful twist that sets their drinks apart.

“Our goal is to craft our cocktails in-house as much as possible,” Powell stated. “We’re always strategizing on how to create our own infusions and mixes to make them more robust and interesting.”

Vinyl is open Tuesday through Sunday from 4 p.m. to midnight. Click here for more details about their offerings and upcoming events.
