What's the Story on Stories Coffee Co.

Stories Coffee Company sets up shop inside the new and improved Union Bank Place.

BY TESSA WISER

Tucked inside Union Bank Place’s newly renovated lobby lies Stories, the newest coffee shop to join Downtown Lincoln.

Stories Coffee Company’s locally roasted beans bring a strong flavor to their menu. Their refreshing drinks boost energy and help get you through the day.

Husband and wife duo, Dan and Brooke Loutzenhiser created Stories over six years ago.

“We want [Stories Coffee Co.] to be a coffee shop for the people,” Dan Loutzenhiser said. “Our community is important to us.”

Stories Coffee Co. opened in 2017 as a mobile coffee truck. Stories Coffee Co. opened its first storefront in 2020 in Omaha, and they now have four locations.

Stories Coffee Co. opened its first Lincoln location on August 21st.

General Manager Meghan Grzeskovwiak joined the business in August. Grzeskovwiak has several years of experience running coffee shops in town.

“I started learning the ins and outs of the company in August,” Meghan Grzeskovwiak said. “Here at Stories, we value people over profit and quality over quantity.”

Stories Coffee Co. is a community-oriented business, giving a small percentage of their sales to a non-profit of tier choosing. Their top three values are: People. Love. Coffee.

“Being a part of the new Union Bank building, we’re a part of a nice community,” Grzeskovwiak said. “Sometimes we see the same people three times a day.”

Since moving into the Union Bank Place building, Stories has grown a loyal customer base. The Union Bank Place was formerly known as the Wells Fargo Building. Union Bank and Trust moved in the same day as Stories Coffee Co.

“It’s beautiful during the day, the sun lights up the whole lobby most mornings,” Grzeskovwiak said. “No one has this view of the capital.”

Stories Coffee Co. has become more than just a coffee shop; it’s evolved into a roastery. Not a coffee drinker? Their chai is also housemade!

Not only do they serve caffeinated beverages, but they also serve some hearty snacks. Eggs are made in-house for their Breakfast All Day special.

“We use real eggs for our breakfast!” Grzeskovwiak said. “A lot of places use a mixture to save on time, but we use real eggs.”

For those who like breakfast, only for breakfast, Stories Coffee Co. offers lunch. Choose a soup, salad, or sandwich to fulfill your lunch craving. View the full menu here

“We wanted to offer some quick food options that are quick and easy, but also filling,” Grzeskovwiak said. “We try hard to make what we can in-house.”

Stop by the newly renovated Union Bank Place to visit Stories for a quick bite and a cup of joe on the go.

Stories is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
