Meet artists Jude & Steve Martindale for the launch of their new book Flying Free~
"Some publications on cranes have great illustrations but suffer from unreliable text. Others have fine text bu have weak or no illustrations. Steve Martindale has written an excellent introduction to the biology of cranes, and Jude Martindale's paintings are not only anatomically accurate and beautiful, but they also capture the eneffable wonder and feelings of joy that are evoked by the sight and sounds of these magnificent ambassadors of nature." ~ Paul A. Johnsgard, author of The Sandhill and Whooping Cranes: Ancient Voices over the America's Wetlands.
Jude earned a Masters in Scientific Illustration at the University of Arizona. She paints cranes in several different artistic styles to capture the exuberance and vitality of these birds.
"I celebrate their lives with images to share their beauty and encourage people to help protect them now and for the future."
Steve studied bird behavior for a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Arizona. He volunteers at Audubon’s Rowe Sanctuary, working as a nature guide and teaching the Crane Behavior class.
"What started as a one-week retirement project for me evolved into a five-year quest to learn more about these amazing birds and to help support them."
Books as well as prints from the artwork in the book and original paintings will be available for purchase.
