Handel’s Suite No. 5 in E Major (“The Harmonious Blacksmith”) opens the concert followed by Stravinsky’s sole piano sonata and Schubert’s beloved “Wanderer Fantasy,” a powerful musical depiction of a stranger’s search for meaning and happiness in a strange land. Trifonov’s stylistic exploration continues on the program’s second half featuring Brazilian, Argentine, and Dominican composers as well as his own original Tango!
