Mike Semrad & the Riverhawks are an American Nebraska-based Rock N’ Roll Soul band, formed in November 2016 by Nebraska natives Mike Semrad, Jano Madsen, Brian McGovern, Ben Mailand, and Austin, TX transplant, Kim Taruc. The band erupted with a soul/R&B sound, out of a previous more roots/folk band called “The Likes”. Mike Semrad, being the driving force behind the writing, assembled the members in Lincoln, Nebraska for year round performances with the intention of releasing original music. Their shows consist of like-minded covers and originals that span 5 decades, with influences ranging from early Sun Records sounds(Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Everly Brothers) to the sweet soul sounds of Sam Cooke, Delbert McClinton, The Mavericks and more.
With a large catalog of songs already taking shape by early 2016, The Riverhawks began booking shows across the midwest. The nature of the music transformed when Jano Madsen joined the combo, adding souring horn solos and the texture of the soul sounding B3 organ. Their original material takes on a unique blend of influences from Rockabilly, Bluegrass and Funk, making their sound enticing to many music lovers.
