Join us to make Monday, June 27th housing rights night at the Lincoln City Council meeting!

In 2020, the Lincoln City Council published the Affordable Housing Coordination Action Plan. This plan was created with the knowledge that Lincoln is lacking in affordable housing, and the need only continues to grow. Community advocates made their voices heard through the creation of this plan, and it’s time to make our voices heard again for housing rights!

On Monday, June 27th during city council’s comment period, join us to highlight a policy we hope to see introduced as an ordinance soon: an end to source of income discrimination. Have you ever seen a rental posting that says something like “no vouchers” or “no section 8” ? For neighbors that use housing vouchers to secure affordable housing, these blanket statements mean that at least 20% of voucher users are unable to ever use them. Lincoln can change this so we are fully utilizing our housing affordability tools and ensure that more Lincolnites can find a place to call home.

You can participate in this housing rights night by:
1. Being present! Sit with us in the city council to show there’s community support for these issues

2. Share a comment with the city council during the comment period! Need some guidance crafting your testimony? Email Lizzie at LTurner@NEAppleseed.org and check out this Guide to City Council Comments: https://bit.ly/3O0N8q7

3. Call/email/Tweet City Council members to let them know you care about affordable housing in Lincoln!
