Whitacre receives strong reviews in advance of its official publication date, November 1, 2022. Released to align with a show of Jennie Hicks paintings at the Dawson County Historical Society and Museum, Lexington, Nebraska, in 2023, The Elk in the Glade: The World of Pioneer and Painter Jennie Hicks chronicles the life and times of a pioneer girl who went on to become a thriving landscape painter in 20th century rural Nebraska.
