Celebrate the rhythms of the year with Wilder Seasons at a free family-friendly interactive event on March 7th from 10am to 2pm in the museum's lobby! Meet Dakota and Shawndel Polivka, author and illustrator of the Lincoln Family Edition of Wilder Seasons, and be among the first to explore the Lincoln-specific guide designed for families with little kiddos.
The book offers a full year of weekly, seasonally themed activities—complete with nature-based play ideas, songs, simple recipes, book recommendations, and outings tailored to Lincoln’s parks, gardens, and cultural spaces. Created by a Nebraska mother, environmental scientist, and sustainability advocate, Wilder Seasons encourages families to slow down, connect with nature, and create meaningful memories together.
During the event, families can:
- Purchase the Lincoln Family Edition of Wilder Seasons and have it signed by the author
- Discover hands-on activities for curious young minds that offer kids an opportunity to practice their art skills, and learn colors and simple math.
- Learn about Nebraska State Historical Society family education programs
- Explore the museum's exhibits to learn about the many people and cultures that have made Nebraska their home. Admission is $5 for Adults, $3 for children, and Free for children under the age of 5.
The book will be available for purchase at the Nebraska History Museum and Capitol gift shops. NSHS Household Plus members receive 10% off book purchases and gift shop items.
