Details

circa 1891

This narrow storefront is notable for its ornate Victorian facade, but does not feature a Seaton & Lea nameplate.  The decoration in this case is wood and pressed metal, but its appearance imitates cast iron storefronts.  The Occidental Saloon, which served the adjacent St. Charles Hotel, was described in 1893 as "neatly fitted up with dark wood fixtures and plate glass mirrors."  Its Irish-born proprietor was said to be "a young man who seems to make it his whole business in life to please his patrons."
